The Skyline's own FanHQ Fantoms strolled into Bloomington on a rain free night and soaked the Bandits night. The Fantoms took advantage of a few Bandit errors to earn the win at Haddox Field.
In the first inning the Bandits loaded the bases with nobody out and could only muster 1 run out of it. Multiple other chances to plate some runs failed as well. Highlights of the night include a nice triple by Jake Huwe, Josh Gist throwing three innings and fanning 5 Fantoms and a rare appearance by a former Bandit, Ryan Wolf. Jake Huwe's massive beard growth followed by Mark Hanson's 70's adult film star mustache and Jimmy John's making a rare delivery of a sandwich to the ballpark. Other fans included Hector the Golden Retriever and Sully the Pitbull.
With no more games for almost a week, George Walker decided to pull an anti Bandit move and throw four chuckers against the Fantoms. Gist went the first three and threw a solid baseball. Lot's of K's. Chad Allmann followed Gist with a nice three frames of ball as well. Kevin Handt threw two innings before taking a Bandit hiatus to play some baseball in Colorado. Cliff Christopherson threw the final inning after a good pep talk from his father, Warren. The foursome mentioned above did a swell job of keeping the Bandits in the game and all did enough to allow the home squad to earn a W in a non league contest.
Ugliness? Jake Huwe's three sacker included a nasty slide that can only be attributed to his massive beard throwing off his balance and causing a face plant at third base. Errors. Running out of can koozie's. Errors. New scoreboard proved to be a difficult task at times throughout the game (but the walkup music was tasteful). Errors. Kevin Leak's baserunning skills after a for sure single. T.J. Post made an appearance as well ... ugly? Why? Because after a fantastic rookie season in 2012, Post is missing 2013 with a shoulder. MRI scheduled by Bandit training staff.
Another Bandit first happened at the FanHQ game as well. Bandit newcomer Alex Wahl becomes the first Bandit player to ride his bicycle to a game since the legendary journery of Jake Saufley. Saufley pedaled his ten speed to Coon Rapids a few years back. Good to see some Bandits being active off the field. (Although, Sam Baltes' wife Mauren did spill the beans that Sweet Swingin' Sam has been dabbling in some tennis).
Post game beverages included Honey Weiss, Busch Light, warm Nordeast and some PBR's. Most were wrapped in Bandit koozie's.
